As with any business, managing a coworking space comes with its own set of challenges. From choosing a location to promoting amenities to managing membership, we’ve got a few tips on managing your coworking space more effectively.

Encourage productivity without sacrificing creativity

Some people love an open floorplan, others need to close the door on distractions, and yet others like both and want to be able to pick between the two on any given day. Be sure you allow for different types of working modes within the space. Offer up some long communal tables, smaller tables with couches or chairs, and cubicles or offices. Be sure to include a few conference rooms for team meetings or collaborative projects. People will manage themselves and their work and find a place that works for them.

Offer up restful amenities

Just because someone isn’t at a desk doesn’t mean they aren’t working. Downtime is an essential part of the creative process, and you can help cater to that with designated areas for rest. Quieter rooms with comfortable couches for decompressing, a small cafeteria or snack area for a bite to eat, or even a coffee station for a midday jolt of caffeine are all great amenities.

Reduce your administrative time and connect with your members

You probably don’t want to be stuck behind a desk doing administrative tasks like billing, access control, membership management, and managing your occupancy levels. Invest in coworking management software to help save you time, automate the recurring tasks, and even improve your overall revenue. To further protect your coworking space's digital infrastructure, consider integrating a Zero Trust solution within your management software to ensure secure access to your systems and member data.

Managing a coworking space isn’t a set-it-and-forget-it venture, and your admin work isn’t either. Invest in a tool that does all this legwork for you while maintaining a strong security posture.

Engage your community

Offer up some additional activities outside of working hours. Team lunch, happy hours, and even a group workout can be great ways of building community across your members. Additionally, be sure to engage with everyone in your coworking space, both in-person and online. Send out regular emails or newsletters with updates on activities, new amenities, or product offerings. You can even connect with other coworking spaces in your area and see what’s working for them.

Whether you’re managing a small neighborhood space or a multi-location enterprise, managing a coworking space can be a rewarding, fulfilling experience. Be sure you’re connecting with your members and not just spending all your time behind a computer with membership management software like Join It.
